Last year over 8 million foreigners visited Japan and there was a marked increase in individual travelers using the rail system. To meet this increase in the inbound travel market and to promote the use of the rail system, JR East is opening a new internet rail seat reservation system effective Tuesday, 25 March 2008. The new Internet site will offer:

◎ Easy to make advance seat reservations, both Ordinary (coach) and Green (first class), on all JR East Shinkansen ‘bullet trains’ as well as on select JR East Limited Express trains.

◎ Seat reservations for foreign visitors using either the standard “Japan Rail Pass”or the regional “JR EAST PASS” for convenient and economical rail travel in Japan.

◎ Complete timetable and fare information to use in planning rail travel.
