The Canada-Japan Society of BC is joining with the Consulate-General of Japan in co-hosting a lecture by Mr. Yukio Okamoto, the renowned Japanese foreign affairs commentator. Mr. Okamoto’s speaking topic is “From Manchuria to Iwo Jima to Nagasaki: What the Competing War Narratives of World War II can say about Sino-American-Japanese Relationship.”

About Mr. Okamoto: Mr. Okamoto was the special foreign affairs adviser to the then Prime Minister Hashimoto from 1996 to 1998, and former Prime Minister Koizumi from 2001 to 2003. He is an ex-diplomat and was engaged in Japan-US security affairs, the Middle East Peace issue, and multilateral trade negotiations (GATT) until his retirement in 1991. He is now an active contributor to major newspapers and magazines; a public speaker and news commentator from the standpoint of a constructive critic.
